The Beeston Humber Gents Tricycle made through the first half of the 1890s had an upward sloping straight top tube, changing to a horizontal top tube in 1896. On this example, the steering head is higher than the seat post, suggesting an earlier version. But its frame No 44684B shows it to be an 1896 model. With its curved upward sloping top tube, I think it was a special order for a customer using the earlier frame.
It took part in the 1988 Melbourne to Sydney centenary of the 1888 Burton & Stokes Around the World Ride. (See photo)
