William Henry Grout patented the Grout Tension Bicycle in 1870 introducing hollow forks, and adjustable spokes among other innovations. These developments being concurrent with James Starley and his work on the Ariel which is generally acknowledged as the first true Ordinary Bicycle. Thus Grout can arguably claim a share of the credit in the development of the Ordinary though with a lesser share of the fame. Grout Bicycles are rare survivors and are seldom offered for sale being a true connoisseurs machine.

This machine has been extensively ridden in the past but stored for the last 30yrs. Finished in Dark Green paint, with rear wheel break. A nicely mellowed restoration this is ready for use or display as the new owner sees fit.
