100,000 miles ago....

This sad 1957 photo gives little away from the heroic future that was around the next corner. The scruffy saloon became the - maybe - most extensively competed Alvis ever: it is the Heath-Marrable Special. In 1962 the car came back to road after an in depth treatment by the two research chemists Heath and Marrable. Transformed into a well educated trials special consequently it did some 100,000 (!) competition miles over three decades. "With outings at Oulton Park, Curborough, Donington, Silverstone, the Welsh (Presteigne), Lakeland, Northern, Hambleton, Land's End, Measham and the Pomeroy Trophy all faithfully recorded." See the car performing in the 1973 Land's End Trial . In the early nineties the car has been restored from all strains and 'battle' injuries. Check the current state of affairs of the 1929 Alvis 12/50 'HM' (click) that will be auctioned next week.
