Does a tour of 1000 miles along the Eastern Border of the former Austrian-Hungarian Empire sounds good to you? It should because the second edition of the Grenzlandrallye, to be held in September, is a leisurely drive through a region rich in history and culture. No stopwatches, no special stages, just driving and enjoying yourself. The hospitality of its inhabitants is unbelievable; there are few cars on the open roads, horse carts often being the only means of transport in the countryside. Quiet places of rest and history opposed to hotspots of development, is what makes these countries so interesting. The Grenzlandrallye is open only for pre-war cars. Last year cars like Bentley 6,5 ltr, Delage D8, Alfa 8C and 6C, Mercedes SS and SSK and BMW 328 participated. Interested? Why not ask Thomas Treul, who organises this year’s event. Maybe there’s still a place left.
