From the land of the rising Amilcar

Lots of people are building Specials. Primarily in the UK (where they invented  the idea) but also many are made or 'under construction' in Germany, France, Belgium and many other countries. However we have to admit that Japan was not the first country that came to our mind in this respect. Untill we received the photos from Sumi Toshiyuki who built this Amilcar Special based on a 1926 G-series (chassis nr. 70735) over the last year! Well done Sumi! Would you be so kind to send a few photos showing dash and engine room as well. We're curious how you solved several typical Amilcar issues.

Nice one. I hope it has a Toyota engine in it. 4age preferably revving to 9000rpm it would beat a C6. I hope the poms have been looking after you but I suspect that may not be the case!

Congratulations, Sumi, on your beautiful special - a very elegant little car. I am also building a much more basic G-Special at the moment and would like to see more detail of how you have rigged the brake levers and rods.
Is your car supercharged?

I don't like new naked aluminium bodies. And I would not dare to drill so many holes neither on the front axle nor on the anyway not very strong chassis. An M special with wooden body weighs 500kgs. I would never weaken a car just to save not more than 2kgs.
Perhaps it made sense on a SSKL Mercedes...but this here is an Amilcar, and they were rather loud than fast.

Sumi has been visiting us for many years searching and buying bits for his proposed car. I am pleased he has at last finished the project and congratulate him on a good looking car.

Given that vehicle testing is so stringent in Japan that even a three year old car cannot realistically be legally run on their roads (which explains the many grey imports to the UK and elsewhere), perhaps Sumi can explain how he manages to get around these restrictions...

Maybe he built it for track use, or maybe there are exemptions for ancient vehicles much as here... And as has already been said, well done Sumi for an attractive looking special.
