Should I add some vitamin to my 1936 Rytecraft scootacar?

Frederick from South Africa wonders which direction to take with his cycle car: "I purchased this cycle car a while ago, it is a mark one with the 98cc Villiers engine. I also have the mark two 250cc Villiers engine, should I restore it back to 98cc or to the 250cc mk 2 version and will it affect the value of this car?"

Editor: Well Fred, as they say a car is original only once. You are now on one of the many crossroads in the life of this little machine. If for 1936 both engines were known you will not be hurt a lot. But keep in mind you will loose the Mk I identity which in our view is a sad thing for this fine example of the super-nimble...

Hello from AU! I have a 1936 Rytecraft that came with a 250cc. I am about to restore my Rytecraft and looking for a 250cc Villiers engine to put in.
what did you decide to do Fred?

What humor/ humor, who is idling around, we are talking 250cc mk 2 of raw power at hand here.

Fred, I agree with the majority, it would be sinful to distort the original body in any way. I therefore strongly suggest the Chevrolet 700R transmission(overdrive), auto, to replace any two speed for the upgrade, the custom industry has proven in sundry, profuse applications to the early 1930's era Ford, automatic drive is the only way to go.

Actually, forget the attempt at humour. I'm with you Mike. Original experiences are worth their weight in gold.

Keep it original! It will never be a practical car, so why pretend otherwise?

If vitamin C is good for you, surely vitamin C C is even better.

Hello from NZ Fred we have an original single speed Rytecar which we understand might be 1934, it is very similar with a 98 cc motor, the road speed will be determined by the single speed centrifugal gearbox rather than the power Id imagine,
So keep it correct in my view,
The later Rytecars with the bigger motors had a I think two speed? gearbox.
ours does about 15 MPH which keeps most kids pretty busy with their direct steering but great fun !!!

Fred, speaking from experience, it depends on your character, are you a fun loving guy, do you have any children, do you like to bring warmth and tenderness to the faces of everyone that crosses your path?
Well then, I would put wheelie bars on the back of the scoot and go for the upgrade.

Maybe it depends whether you want to do 15 mph or 40 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rytecraft

The Villiers Midget makes only about 2 hp and that is on a good day.

Nut and bolt modifications can always be reversed. It is the slash and hack jobs that can not. If something is done for safety then so be it. OK, so much for more vitamins for puddle jumpers. How about some cuties in a nice car for Valentines Day?
