Correction>>> Editors Fatigue, I mixed up day and year of the leaflet. Of course it was 1919 and not 1931 (thanks Bob Swanson & Jose A. Gomez !) José added: "In that year, the first after WWI, a new generation of pilots as Louis Chevrolet running a Frontenac and Tommy Milton in a Duesy came to Indianapolis. The Pace Car (Indy 500 All Time Pace Cars)was a brand new Packard Twin Six and the driver was its creator Jesse G. Vincent. A Ballot occupied the pole position in the first lap record at more than 100mph, (registering 104.78). The winner was Howdy Wilcox(Chris Bloom's pages racing Between the Wars) , the first American to win until 1912, driven a Peugeot property of the same Speedway . Unfortunately, two drivers and a mechanic from Duesenberg were fatally injured. The only Mercedes car was driven by Charles Kirkpatrick who did 70 laps, until a connecting rod broke."
