BMW R75 SIDECAR COMBINATION 1943 "Wehrmachtsgespann"

The BMW R75 was developed from 1938 in response to a specific military requirement: a sidecar outfit capable of operating reliably on any terrain — mud, ice, gravel, desert sand — under extreme temperatures and heavy load, with minimal maintenance. No existing motorcycle met this brief, which led to a dedicated development programme at BMW and, in parallel, at Zündapp. The result was a purpose-built 750cc side-valve boxer twin producing 26 hp, mated to a four-speed road and three-speed off-road gearbox with reverse in both ranges. The sidecar wheel is permanently driven through a lockable differential, and the split tubular frame allows the engine to be removed by folding down the lower frame section. Production began in 1941 and moved to Eisenach in October 1942 after Munich's capacity was reserved entirely for aero-engine production. Approximately 18,000 units were built before manufacture ceased in 1944.

This example was built on 23 April 1943 and delivered the same day to the Heereszeugamt in Chemnitz, as confirmed by the BMW Group Archive from its records. The machine's later history places it in Spain, where it received its first road registration in 1972. It has been in the current owner's possession since 2011 and underwent a thorough professional restoration in 2012, fully documented in photographs. A German TÜV expert report (Sondergutachten) enabling road registration in Germany was issued in 2016.
