Not even the Ford Motor Company could resist the accelerating rate of change that defined the automotive industry in its early decades. Ford built its legendary Model T for nearly 20 years; its successor, the much-improved Model A introduced for 1928, was in production for less than five. Fortunately, the Blue Oval’s next act—an all-new model line developed in secret and introduced on 31 March 1932—was another smash hit.

These Fords featured a brand-new V-8, democratizing an engine configuration that had been the purview of the higher-priced field. Thanks to the insistence of Henry Ford’s son Edsel, they were also beautifully styled, an acknowledgement that buyers were seeking more than pure utilitarianism in a new-car purchase. Notably, this also marked the beginning of year-over-year styling changes at Ford. Sold simply as the “Ford V-8,” and now known widely as the “Deuce,” these were popular, powerful, and practical in their time, and they remain cherished today.

Offered here out of long-term ownership is a wonderful 1932 DeLuxe Roadster, the most sporting of a range of V-8 models offered that year. The car was carefully and correctly restored by its longtime owner some five decades ago in the very appealing combination of Brewster Green with black fenders and body lines, neatly accented with white striping and a light tan top. The interior, as well as the rumble seat, is trimmed in brown. Correct components were used throughout, down to the fittings and hoses in the engine compartment, and the car was subsequently shown in numerous AACA events, including at Hershey. It earned its AACA National First Prize in 1977, and the vintage badge remains affixed to the famous “Deuce” grille to this day!

Today, the Ford’s exterior, interior, engine compartment, and brightwork show the patina of a half-century of gentle use, yet it is overall highly presentable—especially given its age—a testament to the high quality of the restoration work. The Roadster is nicely accessorized with dual side-mounted mirrors, wind wings, and a rear luggage rack, while a Lincoln-style “greyhound” mascot lends a particularly elegant touch.

The 1932 Ford is, simply put, one of the defining American automobiles of the 20th century, and it is for good reason that collectors still seek out stock-configuration examples. Offered out of over 50 years of long-term ownership, this cherished V-8 DeLuxe Roadster is now ready for a new caretaker that will begin its next chapter.
