The 1939 Ford range marked an important turning point in the company’s pre-war automotive design, combining streamlined forms with Ford’s traditional accessibility and mechanical dependability. Its fluid, cohesive new bodywork reflected the growing influence of aerodynamic design while introducing a degree of visual sophistication associated with more expensive automobiles. The influence of the upscale Lincoln-Zephyr was particularly apparent in the teardrop-shaped headlamps neatly integrated into the front fenders.
