UPDATE III: "...1904-05 Olds (-)...it was a model that was made for two years
along with the standard curved dash model. It is called the model
TR for Touring Runabout. It has the radiator in the conventional
location instead of underneath and is called a "French Front"
model. The wheel base is 10" longer (76") than the curved dash but
apparently shares the same 5"x6" single cylinder engine 2-speed planetary
transmission with single drive chan to the rear axle." David Greenlees
Update II: "Definitely 1905 Oldsmobile. The suspension is
characteristically early Olds, the longitudinal leaf springs running
front to rear on each side, with the little transverse leaf spring above
the front axle."
Update: Frank Iaccino expresses doubts on the Olds writing it resembles very much a 1908 REO! Kit Foster suspects the cat in the formans lap to be just one of the workers, the socalled 'shopcat'.
EARLIER: Hampton Wayt (US) writes:"... I just purchased this photograph
from a literature dealer. It appears to be a 1905 Oldsmobile
with some factory workers. I was wondering if anyone out there could
identify if this is an Olds factory photograph. I have read that
Oldsmobile had 2 factories in its early years, plus had Oldsmobiles
being produced in Canada under contract to Packard Electrics. I hope someone can identify the image and some of the people in it."
Edit.: please click photo for detail of car plus people in it; a second detail is a zoom on the craftsmen around the unfinished coachwork -please click here. Take note of the 'glue - grips' and more important the cat in the lap of the 'foreman'. In our eyes a proof of a liberal attitude of the management towards the workers. We think the photo is a rare jewel.
