95 years Bentley; allow your car a day out in Holland

Is your car tired of the City? Then consider this. It may not have come to your mind, but it's 2015 and so Bentley cars show their aristocratic face around the globe since 95 years. The clever organisers of  The National Oldtimer Day in Holland (always on Father's Day; this year Sunday, June 21 ) must have thought, let's not wait for the centennial  in 2020 when everybody claims these cars. So why not do a Bentley 95 celebration? Bright idea! This in cooperation with PreWarCar. Our common goal is to get together a crowd of 95 vintage and classic Bentleys.

So if you own a vintage or post-vintage Bentley you are most welcome as a special guest at the largest pre-war & classic car event of the Netherlands. All participating Bentley crews will receive a 'Certificate of Participation' handed out by the British Consul-General in The Netherlands, Sir John Haseltine Cameron-Webb, which of course is fun but more important is the outlook on a super Bentley gathering with many PreWarCar friends. We are really looking forward to welcome you and your car at the PreWarCar hospitality. Now if you consider coming over, be sure to contact us at [email protected] or contact organiser William van der Meulen at [email protected]

Mr Mawer,
I see you continue to peddle your rather muddled thinking regarding Mr Toad.
May I repeat to you that Mr Toad’s wealth allowed him to indulge his passions without getting his hands dirty – he was clearly not a Special builder or tuner by any stretch of the imagination.
Toad ordered a new motor car and, when subsequently prevented from using it by Badger, Ratty and Mole, he stole one, crashed it and was incarcerated. The connection that you again attempt to make with Mr Toad and the Special building and tuning fraternity is silly.
You rail against the people who modify vintage cars and yet you’re perfectly happy to modify vintage literature.
As I said in our last exchange, this smacks of the arrogance of Mr Toad.

To get down to detail, yes, this is indeed a glorious car.It almost certainly carries its original bodywork, built on the long wheelbase touring chassis. To my mind, it would be better if the engine had not been replaced with a 4.5litre unit (an "upgrade"-perhaps the car also now has an overdrive, too? but this is not an "in your face" modification particularly, & I would certainly like to own it. Long may it stay as it is now, hopefully safe from the "Mr. Toads" who would like it to become another Red Label model. These cars were so cheap when I was young! But wages were low,too-so not easy to buy one, even then.

We usually say 3 / 4 1/2 litre, a 4 1/2 litre engine in a 3 litre chassis.
"not in green": In fact, green was not a popular color in the 1920s, only a small fraction of Bentleys were green. Modern restorations so uniformly green are not historically accurate. And the original bodies on Bentleys were a lot more varied and a lot more attractive than the "boy racer" bodies so frequently seen on modern restorations, so cheers for this surviving original body.

It's a 3 litre plain and simple. And all the better for it.

Agree. It appears to be a very smart car and the colour really suits it.
