A cross-over barnfind.

Car marketeers sometimes try to make us believe that they cook up new car concepts all the time. Don't believe too quickly what they say, there have been thousands of ideas around from the moment the very first car drove off. Some made it, some didn't. See this barnfind from Normandy sent to us by Bernard Collin: "Benjamin made cars for all users: here is a little 250kg "commercial torpedo" as I found it in a barn at Saintes in the Charentes. A future restoration project. The engine is a 1000 cc Chapuis Dornier: same engine for the "pur sang" and the "Percheron" of this car builder ..."
We hope you did not overlook the "commercial torpedo" bit, which means in plain English that this is a convertible utility, a CUV if you like. Coincidentally we much earlier found out that there was some experimenting with coachworks in this very same small French town where the local museum Dupuy-Mestreau de Saintes is keeping this late 18th century 'cross-over', a Berline-Coupe...! There is no such thing as coincidence.
