A Drophead Polka Dot Mystery ( update: 1936 Hanomag Rekord Cabriolet?)

She comes out with a cheeky smile to the observer, well to the photographer.  We found the scene at a marketplace where nobody wanted her as the car is both unknown and only part visible. We have a slightly different view on things. We have a soft spot for polka dots and unidentified cars. Maybe you can help us with the last bit. No matter the british appearance of the car it is a photo shot probably in Belgium or Holland. For that the left hand steering is a give away. Not the absense of a navi device but the presence of a well used roadmap in the doorpocket. The door itself is not particularly flimsy which may be a sign for an upmarket machine. The bonnet is showing a vent door and no louvres. And what about the twin wiper operation, the well formed seats and the nice top bows. The hubcaps point to the last pre-war years. The rear bumper and oversized tail light may offer a last straw for identification.  We're looking forward to hear your comments. Maybe you can even tell us more about the silver(?) brooch the lady is wearing and about the runaway 'polka dot' on the right seat. Or is it a golf ball?

One more thing:

If it's a Hanomag, which I strongly believe, the tail-light was definitely added later - perhaps after the war.

Quite a number of these well-built (yet under-powered) Hanomag middle-class cars survived the war continued to be used as daily drivers until the 1950s. These "survivors" often feature parts of other cars or were even heavily modified to keep them running.

You'll find several postwar pictures of more or less modified Hanomag "Rekord" vehicles in my Hanomag gallery:

Enjoy!

I'd also plead for a Hanomag "Rekord" convertible from the mid-30s equipped with the standard body supplied by Ambi-Budd.

For comparison please refer to a picture from my collection showing such a car taken from a different angle (interior door trim is visible, too):

Dear Sirs & ladies

I am pretty sure that it is a Hannomag Record 37/38, with ABP body.
I owned one some years ago, and it is now in Germany.
It could be an Adler, but the bracket at the bonnets louvre, I do recall

Having a closer look at the rear wheel I would agree with Gerard and Hermon,I think it would have to be a Hanomag.

No idea about the car, but, the roof tiles are Pan Tiles - British, The brick wall also looks British - that's a Garden Wall Bond. Could the picture be a mirror image.

I think Reg is right. From all my Photos it looks like the TA 11 Cabriolet. Not the Roadster, which has an extended rear, and dickey seat !

By the look of the bonnet vent, windscreen post, twin wipers and the general quality, I would say this could very well be an immediate pre-war custom bodied Citroen TA 11.

I would suggest an Adler, not sure what model, I am not an expert on these cars, or any other for that matter. What fascinates me are the fence posts, they appear to be concrete and made with an elegant tapper nicely rounded at the top. All the modern concrete posts that I have seen are very clunky with no style what so ever.
