Finding an original Fiat Balilla Berlinetta Aerodinamica Mille Miglia body mounted on the chassis of a Citroën 5 CV from the 1920s, that almost sounds like a fairytale. But we can tell you it is a true story. The existence of this which was previously an unknown Fiat is found abandoned in the back of a garage.
Luckily, the body of the original model remains intact, including its wooden interior structure, its mouldings, the windscreen with the two holes of the integrated wipers, as well as the original floors. It has doors and a rear hood made of aluminium, and inside the boot, you can still see the three original spare wheel fasteners. Look at the photographs, pretty impressive don`t you think?
Designed by the famous Mario Revelli de Beaumont, its appearance was already unusually modern for its time. The advanced aerodynamic lines on this beautiful coupé were called ‘Berlinetta Aerodinamica Mille Miglia’. The chassis used was the same one of the legendary Fiat 508 ‘Balilla’ IInd series presented in 1934, while the engine was the ‘508 CS’ type. A sporty version with a new cylinder head with valves that allowed it to reach a power of 36 HP.
It is believed that around thirty models were built. But today just over a dozen survived and are known to exists. This exclusive model is probably the only Fiat 508 CS Berlinetta Aerodinamica that was sold to Spain (just before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in July of 1936). The remains of this Mille Miglia car will now be put up for auction on Catawiki on the 7th of September 2018.
We truly hope this car finds a new owner who can bring the car back to life so it can live happily ever after… And ends up with someone (you can be this person!) who has the ambition to once again compete in the famous Mille Miglia, just like in the 1936 edition. Where a model driven by Francesco Borgo and Lia Dumas finished second in their class and 14th in the overall ranking!
