The Star automobile is a name to remember and, although it was one of the leading motor manufacturers before World War One, not many are known of anymore. The Wolverhampton-based Star Engineering Company built cycles from 1883 and its first car in 1897 (based on a Benz). A twin-cylinder version appeared in 1900, followed a year later by one with a Panhard-type 7hp vertical twin which formed the basis for the next seven years’ construction. These 7hp Stars were cheaper dan similar Panhard-cars.
These pictures came to us from our friends at the Dutch Pionier Automobielen Club (PAC) and shows a Star from circa 1903 that once sat in a barn in Sweden before it got restored there in the 60s and then sold on to the Netherlands.
It was once owned by Lars Olsson in a Swedish village called Delsbo where it was registered and used until circa 1925, when he took it apart to investigate how it worked. The car stayed in pieces in his garage before Gert Sundblad from Falun bought it. Gert put the puzzle together and restored the car, it got Reg No. W90900 (circa 1970), and after 1973 was registered as COT830. In the 90s the car came to the Netherlands, but there the story ends.
With the VCC, about 8 similar cars are known to have been built around 1904/1905; but only one with a four-seater body, which car is in Australia. Are there any others that you know of and does anyone know what happened to this car since then?
