A smile from the dark

When the Parisian auction house Artcurial organizes a sale, you can always count on them to come up with several fine French automobiles. One such car is this original 1913 16 HP Brasier with a bodywork by Marcel Guilloux. At the outbreak of WWI the owner of the Brasier joined the army, but before leaving he hid his most valuable possessions behind a walled-up part of his house. He did not survive the war and it wasn’t until the early 1970s that the then owners of the house knocked down some walls to make an extension. Imagine their surprise when two big headlamps smiled at them from the dark. But they were not interested in ‘old cars’ and asked a classic car dealer to 'clear it out'. Since then the Brasier changed hands a few times, but it is still in its very original condition, virtually untouched since 1914. Take a look at lot 7! (photos courtesy Artcurial) (RB)
