Looking at this photo it made us feel again like born in the wrong era. The empty streets in the background. The highwheeled horsecart as single witness set aside the photographer. And then the hardly readible filmposter on the wall... ("Cuor Di Marinaio" > "Heart of the Marine" < (check) (can you date the photo based on the poster ??). More important of course are the driver and his dusty 8C 2300 of which it is very easy to imagine the tuned, slightly nervous tick-over on this chilly morning, which can change in a dry howling roar with a slight move of the right toe. But let's be realistic... what are the chances that we would have been born with the money and possibilities of a Mr. Levi Semana, a well to do Jewish banker from Florence? He owned several exotic supercars. The next one that we will show you in a few days is now in the hands of Ralph Lauren... (photo courtesy AlfaDoctor, Italy)
Stuart Penketh gave his analysis..."The film Cuor di Marinaio (US: Good Hearted Sailor), was first made in 1907 by Rossi & C, Torino,(scroll down at
Anica.it), with a US remake in 1929 called "Navy Blues". However Alfa 8C 2300 was introduced in 1931 - and made until 1934. The poster looks very old, and has been there much longer than the Alfa, and is not a good aid to dating the picture." edit.: Thanks for that Stuart! We agree, but it gives some dimension of time to the photo. The poster is probably no longer there, just like the Alfa...
