A very special Special: Bloody Mary

A special car, built by a special man. John Bolster, racing driver, commentator and motoring-writer, began to build this home-made special together with his brother Richard in 1929. With its two twin-cylinder JAP-engines and chain-drive it was essentially a sprint-car, but during the 1930’s John also tried his hand at racing at Donington and Brooklands (stevproj.com). Bolster continued to use Bloody Mary after the war, but a serious accident made him realise that his racing days were over. When Bolster died in 1984, Bloody Mary became part of the collection of the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu. (text Rutger Booy; picture automobilia pages)
