About Tough to Crack Puzzle #111: Fiberfab Bonanza GT

Last week's puzzle is showing one of the hundreds of Volkswagen based fiberglass cars of the 1960s-1970s. It's origins could be seen from the rear wheel of the photographed car, and therefore a little part of the enigma was reasonably easy to discover. The great issue was this sporting body with its sharp lines, which even could make you think of a front engined car. Only one reader came to the right conclusion, and even gave us some accurate data.

Till Jauernig told "it´s a Fiberfab Bonanza. Not a Jamaican or whatever from Fiberfab. It´s unknown because it´s from the german section from Fiberfab like the better known Bonito. I have read that 50 pieces were produced and 18 still exist (but I don`t know if this is true). And there was a restoration project for sale in my hometown Deggendor Bavaria".

Indeed this very rare car is one of the 49 units built of the Fiberfab Bonanza GT in Ditzingen (Stuttgart, Germany) between 1967 and 1973 on Volkswagen Type 3 chassis . The number of survivors is unclear, but surely the blue car under restoration is unknown to most of the registers, as it has appeared recently in southern Spain after a long term neglect and devoid of interior and engine (photo 2). It´s really hard to find info about these fiberglass cars, so congratulations Till! And please email us your mail address and your T-shirt size.
