All we knew: Hotchkiss....

What we see is a monumental car in front of a monumental cathedral entrance. In fewer words: a cathedralesque car (click photo). Now sit still and believe every word we say: there is no such thing as coincidence! We received this photo weeks and weeks ago, and Sunday night we decided to pick it and write down the very bits we knew. To be honest, we had no good other material available... "Hotchkiss" is all what the information said. Nothing more. In order to pinpoint the type of coachwork we went through a collection of old magazines: L'Illustration and believe it or not within 2 minutes of browsing we found this exact car! Exact! The text under the illustration says this car was at the "5e Salon de l'Automobile" of Paris (January 3 1903) and describes this motorcar as a "Grande Voiture de Tourisme, de M.M. Rheims et Auscher". So no Hotchkiss at all. But who can fill us in about this most extraordinary and superior seven seater? Check for a little a little more detail. Also we found an original document on a French website with documents about the 1900 Salon International saying Rheims & Auscher then was a coachbuilder related with Mors and Rotschild and was located at Avenue Malakoff 121, Paris. See the document at Cnum.Cnam.fr. Who can teach us more? What a car ! [email protected] (photo courtesy Mike Leahey;collection Sonja and Ron Holbauer)
