American Pie: taking a first bite!

About two years ago Glenn Billqvist from Sweden told us about his plans to build a vintage Land Speed Record car. Nicknamed ‘American Pie’ it was only a 27 litre - 750 hp engine and a frame at that time, but now Glenn is nearing the final stage of completing his project and to warm our hearts and ears sends this YouTube video: (be sure to turn your speakers down before clicking the link! ;-) the first clearing of the throat of the V12 Isotta-Fraschini Aero engine since 1942.

Here is short video clip of the first run on a track. Runns quite well and easy to drive despite the heavy engine. Enjoy

Regards,
Glenn

@ Oliver, everthing. It is the spirit of "hotroding" and play with power as our granddads did. Building a spezial is the art of small people having a prewarcar.

I think Oliver is right! So many people today create their own idea of an old vehicle. This distorts history,& often means the loss of old parts which could have been used in the rebuild of a genuine vehicle.I think the British VSCC club has a lot to answer for!!

this is what i like to see, its what old cars are all about ,doing your own thing. its very nice to have a Bentley or Bugatti but its also good to bolt something together yourself and it does not cost so much in most cases,

Thanks for the comments. There will for sure be better wheels to stand the torque and the gravity from the bends. The body is own design, but from the era of 20´s and 30´s as you can see (huge body. 5 meter long and 160cm high. The chassis is from a Delage 1924, but boxed to stand the torque. I will keep you all posted when the LSR are actions. Regards,
Glenn

Glene, na té tvojí "stvořenině" není geniálního nic. Celkovou formu jsi okopíroval od Ettoreho ,jak chceš,aby ti tohle brzdilo a tahle drátěná kola přenesla ten kroutící moment. Ale prosím. Chceš-li se zabít,nebude taková škoda. Zdraví tě Jirka Schwarz
