Mark Dixon likes to learn more about this extra large Bentley / Goodrich enamel sign: "There is no maker's name but the type style and the quality of the enamelling dates it to the 1930s and the car is clearly a Bentley Speed Six. It's quite a large sign, measuring 8 x 4ft (2.43 x 1.22m). No-one knows exactly how many of these signs survive but it is likely to be less than half-a-dozen, judging from my conversations with the leading UK dealers. I bought this one from a collector some years ago and I know of only one other example, although I have been told by a Bentley specialist (Neil Davis Racing) that he has seen two. It is very unusual to find 'real' cars depicted on enamel signs – let alone advertising someone else's product, and especially when that car is a Bentley!" [email protected] (see also parts section)
Bernd Löhle found a second specimen in the collection of Jim Pike. UPDATE II by Jim Pike:' Looking at the car on the enamel it is more than likely a Speed Six because the headlamps look like P100's which came out in 1929. But ... the sidelights are Smiths which are usually found on the Standard Six and a Half which was 1926 to 1929.
Unfortunately, you can't tell from the dynamo position because most were converted by the works to run of the crankshaft rather than the rear of the cam shaft. We believe it to be 1929/1930. We have only ever seen five of which two of those will be the same as Neil Davies has seen!'
