Our recent article about the Barnfind Ariès prompted Hans Compter to write: “To my knowledge the company did not make many cars and did not change their radiator styling in the 1920s. I believe they also continued their chassis numbers through the different models. I owned a 3-speed /1085cc 5CV overhead cam Type CC2 Torpédo in 1973, it carried chassis number 17463 and engine number 22520, suggesting that the car's year was 1922 or 1923. In 1977 I bought a circa 1930 - 1500cc type CB4 "L" Berline which carries chassis No. 18912 and which we still own today, suggesting that the company only made about 1500 cars in 7 to 8 years. The company made mainly trucks and its policy in the 1920s was to only make one 15CV car per day. I also think that the pictured chassis is the 15CV type CC4 with the 2957cc SV-engine. There were two versions of the 15CV with different valves operations. RHS gearshifts were still in use on quite a few French cars till the mid to late 1920s, so that is not an indication that it is prewar. Looking at the wheels and if they are original, then I think this chassis could be 1925/1926.” (photos & text Hans Compter)
