Back-to-back: 1930 Ford Hot Rods

Here at PreWarCar.com we're happy to cater for any pre-war car enthusiast. Like any car community out there, our scene is about as diverse as it gets and, with that in mind, we thought we'd move a bit further to the edges of pre-1940-motoring on this occasion.

Enter Hot Rodding, with its massive following in the US. The two 1930 Ford Model A’s seen here are prime examples and are both offered in the Muscle Car Madness auction by Sonicbidder on the 22nd of this month in Jackson, Mississippi.

The red car comes with a Chevy 350 small block engine and has been subjected to a roof (or should that be windscreen?) chop (2 inches) and cab extension (6 inches) plus a shortened pick-up bed and recessed firewall. Other typical features include flush-mounted rear lights, wooden bed floor and a fully custom-made interior. According to the auctioneer "Everything has been touched to near perfection. You’ll be hard-pressed to find one better and nearly no expense was spared."

The blue one that’s also on offer doesn’t fall short either. This one uses a 248 Ford flathead engine with aluminium heads. Again the cabin has been extended and it looks to us like the pick-up bed has also been shortened. The windscreen seems to retain its original height, and the wire wheels give it a more classic look than the red car. Look underneath and you’ll find some pinstriping details while the inside is upholstered in leather. Over $80,000 is said to have been invested in the car.
