A Burned Down Convertible Mystery? (update: 1938 Buick Series 40 Convertible Coupe)

This is an early post-war photo made after heavy bombing near the village of Schijndel (probably in September 1944 when the allied forced fought their way form Normandy direction of Arnhem)  in the Netherlands. Little is left of the US-built(?) convertible. A general impression, further headlights, details of the bonnet, remains of dashboard, body structure, boot lid cut out and rear bumper. Following is an enlargement showing more of the front part remains of the car. Is this what we think that it once was ?

"I think it is much more than it once was"
(whether 1937 or 1938).
The EUROPEAN motorcar market was FOCUSED on the EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS of 1934-39, if you breathed you knew the Grand Prix.

Mercedez "Won" the 1935 Championship/ W25(CARACCIOLA), "conventional U framed chassis".
AUTO- UNION won in 1936, prompting M-B to curtail the season, hiring Rudolf Uhlenhaut to make changes.
Instead of an "upgrade", he built the W125 with TUBULAR(ELLIPTIC) frame, changing history(for the worse?).
THAT FRAME WAS "NEW"(NICKEL/CHROME/MOLYBDENUM). Molybdenum, north of NEW(1936) Hoover Dam(?), Chromium, Britain(mid- western US) iron ranges?

Yes, Buick 1938. The 1937 is similar, but has one more "rib" on the bonnet side trim.

Hi.It is the sad remains of a 1938 Buick.Packard had the same type of stripes on the hood side but had 4 paralell stripes ending at the rear of the headlights. On the photo are 5 stripes going in behind the headlight.-40 Buick had the headlights integrated in the front fender and not as this mounted on the radiator framing. All according to Standard Catalog.

I believe you are correct. The model would be 46CX. 152 were shipped to Europe.

I would say you are spot-on with your assumption. The chrome strips an the side of the bonnet (hood) and headlight are the real give away.

Sure looks like a Buick, but with the side mounted spares.
I would like to know who was touring around Schijndel in a '40 Buick when the bombs feel. Nazi officer in captured car?
