Many American auto manufacturers contributed to the war effort. So did Cadillac with this 1941 Series 62 Convertible Sedan. Delivered new to the U.S. Navy, it was used by Admiral Kimmel, Commander in Chief of the U.S. and Pacific Fleets. However, Kimmel’s career came to an end after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He was succeeded by Admiral Chester Nimitz, who not only took over Kimmel’s duties, but also his Cadillac. This Convertible Sedan differs slightly from other Models 62, as the dash is not finished in wood, but in black; there are no fender skirts as used on the standard bodies and it also features rubber stone guards. All tell-tales of its use as a government car. After the war the Cadillac became part of the Art Astor Collection and will be offered by RM during their sale on June 29. Look for lot 366! UPDATE by Jef Hansen:"GM still has available the factory invoices documenting the as-built configuration of *all* Cadillacs and LaSalles from 1903 - 1970 with the exception of 1968. Information on this service is available at the Cadillac Lasalle Club. (editor: too bad GM does not make available this info online. Buyers in most cases will think it is too much of a hassle to go through all that without knowing how long it will take.)
