The addictive aroma of fresh roasted peanuts.

In our opinion the main attraction of RM's Milhous Auction is of course the enormous collection of musical instruments. You may remember our article about the huge organ and carousel. Apart from the musical part there will be many motorcars in the auction and one that attracted our attention is this circa 1910 Cretors Popcorn and Peanut Wagon. Its inventor, Charles Cretors, realized the attraction of the smell of roasting peanuts, and he used steam for roasting and popping, which gave a much better product than open flame designs. And he was right, let's be honest here, if you ever travel by train or subway, can you resist the smell coming from the stalls of the peanut vendors? We can't! Anyway, the Cretors other attraction is the raised steam popper that spills fresh popcorn into a large bin behind glass. On the far side is the peanut roasting drum, and opposite, next to the vending window, is the small steam engine. It is all in working condition, so if you are thinking of starting your own fairground, this Popcorn Wagon would certainly go nice with the organ and carousel! Check for lot 831 on February 24-25 at RM's Milhous Auction.
