UPDATE by Thomas Billicsich: he found a different perspective of the same photo with yet another
Lancia recovery truck!!! (click). But will it help to solve Josef's question?
Always something new in this prewar world... We always learned and read about Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg, so what's this? Josef Woess from Austria, writes: "...a photo of (most probably) a Lancia Trikappa, ca. 1925-30, seen in front of Smoliner & Kratky's workshop, Vienna. Smoliner & Kratky were the Lancia importers for Austria at that time. They also represented Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg and Citroen with branches in Prague and Pressburg (now Bratislava).
Mr. Smoliner's favourite marque was Lancia. The workshops looked like the
Turin factory. Alongside repair and servicing they also built their own
bodies for commercial use (light trucks and buses). Funnily, when Smoliner
lost the representation for the marque at the end of the 50's to Denzel (see
"Denzel Sport"), he devoted a lot of his companies' resources to restoring
Lancias from the 20's and 30'S with a passion for berlinas. Thus, they
converted an Astura Convertibile into a Berlina Sei Luci!" Josef is really interested to learn who can tell soenthing more about which basis was used for this towing Lancia. Please report to [email protected] (photo collection Josef Woess; click for enlarged detail
