Circuit de Picardie 1907.

This is a detail of a pre race postcard sent to us by Bob Swanson some time ago. Title is >>> CIRCUIT DE PICARDIE. -5.- La Sortie de Domart-sur-la-Luce - C.N. <<< (click here for full image). The road going downtown with the inevitable church pointing up from the village center. Bob writes: "Note the Garage Hirondart sign. (...). I think they drove the course, placed the sign, took the photo and moved on.' The part we cut of at the right is probably the photographer's car. Now why would one make a series of postcards like these? We think that Garage Hirondart decided to billboard in the period of the races and asked proof for the money he spent on signs. And maybe upon seeing the result he thought: "Well these make a nice souvenir with my name on it. Why not print a few hundred." Our offices are open for more sensible alternatives; send to [email protected]... (postcard collection Bob Swanson)
