Team six of the recent Peking to Paris Rally consisted of the two Dutchmen Michel Laarman and Ton Poelsma with their 1911 Knox Type R. They made it to the finish in Paris, but not without their share of problems. Two hundred kilometres after leaving Peking they noticed a crack in one of the cylinders of the 7200cc Knox engine. Repair was out of the question, so they had to drive the whole route on the remaining three cylinders. Michel Laarman, who owns the Knox, is looking for a new cylinder block. Does someone know of a spare lying around somewhere? Otherwise Hershey will be good place to find one. If you spot a Knox engine, come and tell us. PreWarCar will be in the Red Field at stand RWB-1 (click here for PDF-map).

Update by Dick Trenk: "From the photos seen, this engine has 4 individual cylinders held down against the crankcase block by long bolts running from the very top of each cylinder casting. Quite a common design in those days when "cast enblock" engines were not yet too popular due to foundry limitations in controlling cooling system water passage ways in the cylinder block and head."
