Passing on the hobby!

In recent years we have heard so many times about the fear that the old car hobby will die with the current custodians. That today's youth has no interest in all this. We have our opinion in this, but let's rest that for today. John C. Meyer III, editor of the Horseless Carriage Gazette (the American club-glossy about brass cars) has found his own way to hand over the love for old cars to a next generation. His friendly booklet 'Don't tell Douglas' was originally meant for his grandson Douglas alone. Yet it is a most charming collection of stories and warm memories. And knowing John, it's no suprise the stories are packed with old cars and nw cars of many many years ago. All this in a very natural way.  It's not a car book. John is not rambling on about the cars, they are just part of life's landscape, part of  family life. Bringing pleasure and bringing  family and friends to where they wanted to go.  We think it is a pleasant and intelligent way to hand over the emotions that come with the cars of that era. When intersted you can order through Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com . Or when you want the limited edition with John's signature in the book, better send him an e-mail directly. May make a clever Xmas gift.

PS, the car in the background is of course in the book. Think if you know and then click for Read More

My friends are very interested and they love my parent's and my CCCA cars, as well as the 50's 60's sports cars - the problem though is that the cost prohibits most from cool stuff whether it an open cars or the truly impressive closed ones (leaving them with the generic stuff). Next, most have never learned to maintain them - not easy either. And, if you do not grow up around them it is a very difficult to justify.

Don't need to guess. John was very kind to me in 1979 (?) when I came west to snag the Car Classics files and back issues. He had the Pierce then, though I'm not sure if it wasn't running or we don't have time to go for a ride.

Hi, John! We haven't seen each other since, but I've followed your trail over the years.
