This is David Biggins’ 1913 Daimler Mercedes Rennwagen GP rep. at its first outing at Loton Park. The VSCC Loton Park hillclimb was privileged to receive this ‘new’ car on the scene having only driven ten miles before competing in the event. With six cylinders, it is perhaps a little less known than it’s younger relative of 1914. The French Grand Prix of that year changed engine size regulations restricting cars to 4.5L. Unphased by this Mercedes altered the six-cylinder to a four and subsequently went on to take the top three in the competition. David’s first event in the 1913 six-cylinder model was not quite as triumphant, although the event completed without problems and a thoroughly enjoyable first-time-competing could be equalled to winning.
