Flying High! (UPDATE IV: early 1930s Standard + 1936-37 Hudson)

Last week John Barringer had some new tyres fitted on to his modern car and at a general dealers site opposite the tyre depot he saw these vehicles. The one in the air is, he thinks, a late thirties Hudson Terraplane. There was another car in a barn almost hidden from sight which could be a mid thirties Standard 9 or 10hp. Keep checking those barns and dealer lots. Many prewar cars are still out there just waiting to be liberated!

Do have look at out PostWar section and tell us about The Underground Mystery!

It is a 1937 Hudson car and not a shorter Terraplane. Click on the photo for a second view showing the grille. There is sufficient wheelbase that it must be Hudson, not Terraplane.

The contour of the grille shell looks more like 1936-37 than 1938. The '38s had a less laid-back shape. The lack of a bustle at the back could be because the car has shed its boot/trunk lid.

I don't think the '37 and '38 contours are actually different. This site:

currently has the two models juxtaposed one above the other. They look remarkably the same.

This is a 1938 Hudson, probably Model 112. The slope of the rear sedan body is what makes a difference between a 1937 and 1938, the 1938 being a steeper slope.

Yes, that's a Terraplane, made by by not badged as a Hudson until 1938. This would be a 1936 or '37 model. Can't tell for sure without a front view.

Definitely a Standard but I would suggest early rather than late 1930s. By the end of the 30s the "Flying Standards" were around - more streamlined and with amore rounded radiator grill.
