Forgotten classics, such a long line of makes to choose from and an enormous challenge to make a decent presentation. At the Interclassics show in Maastricht last week, they succeeded in just this.
Next to the many classic car dealers, the organisation collected some remarkable cars, some that normally would never be shown to the public, let alone be for sale at such a show. From a PreWar Invicta S-type to a Pegaso Z-102 GT Berlinetta.
The lead car was the Saoutchik built 1948 Talbot Lago T26 Grand Sport Coupé. This impressive car is normally housed at the Louwman Museum in The Hague and got the attention of many enthusiastic visitors. With its stunning lines, it can be seen as car art in its purest form.
Another fantastic automobile was the 1921 Spyker C4 Torpedo. This Dutch make has quite some reputation (think of the first four-wheel-drive, first Peking to Paris) and the C4 certainly was part of this. They took the record of Rolls-Royce to drive as many kilometres in 36 days (30.000 km vs 24.000 by RR) and had the speeding record in 1922 (119 km/h). The Torpedo has a characteristic blank aluminium bonnet, which is apparently original.
The best PreWar show award went to the amazing original Stanley Steamer, such an incredible car. Currently in the ownership of Fine Automobiles and they are going to have it run again. The car still has the original paint and upholstery and was in the same family for more than 70 years, used by 3 generations. Great car and a justified award winner!
Sad news can also be the start of something good. Last year, Bugattist pur sang Jean Prick passed away and he had a Bugatti stand since the first InterClassics edition. This year, his daughter with his grandchildren held a remembrance. With a Bugatti T57 that was owned by Ettore himself, two little Brescia, a T37A and lots of memorabilia/old photos it was like it used to be.
On the PreWarCar.com & PostWarClassic.com stand, we met many old friends and new users. The impressive Rolls Royce Phantom 1 Coupé gained a lot of interest and people were amazed by the engine of the stunning 1912 Case car. Often people asked if it still was able to drive or how the lights work. And only a few visitors knew the make. But we are happy that also a lot of visitors showed interest in the early motorcars.
Interclassics Maastricht 2021 will be held from 14 till 17 January 2021. Hope to see you there.
