Fräuleins fettling on friday 13th.

When a reader asked for help identifying the car above, we quickly thought it would be an easy and fun piece of detective work.  One caption mentioned Bugatti, and then a friend who knows a thing or two about Alfa Romeos got all excited and suggested it may be a long lost Alfa P2 with road-going bodywork ( because of the distinctive filler caps.)  The same enthusiast then wondered about a Jano designed Fiat?
The correspondence then turned to the underskirt ( on the CAR gentlemen, on the CAR!) and whilst gazing at this lovely sports car's body we soon realised that it screamed 'Amilcar'.  The rear wheels and brake drums should have told us straightaway.
We blame the distractions, which is, after all,  why we share the picture with you this friday the thirteenth. The date is associated with bad luck, but these two elegant girls were lucky, because they had been chosen to pose for the photograph  taken by photographer Heinz von Perckhammer .
Perkhammer was better known for his photographs of nudes, but this picture was for a 1935 issue of magazine 'Sieben Tage' and during our investigations we came across this delightful study of the same car....

And another image which helps identify the model - CGS or CGSs ?

Perhaps YOU can tell us more details about the car, the ladies or the photographer?
Despite the date today, we wish you luck, and plenty of it.

( Ed.  Thank you to Stefano Bortoletto for his definitive identification of the car - a Fiat 501 S with Bertone body. )

The German Duchess/Gräfin Einsiedel drove a Chiribiri at the 19129 Eibsee icerace in 1929. That car´s cooler mask looks most similar to the Perckhammer car. Could that be another Bertone-bodywork?

There is a relationship between cars and photography. And girls.
Every Sunday morning in Mumbai vintage and classic cars and their owners gather at a place called Horniman Circle. The attendance ranges from 4 to 25 cars. Lots of passers-by do stop to stare, and hordes of photographers go clicking away. Beautiful girls get photos clicked (or shot, here it would sound inappropriate) for their portfolio, and many come dressed up just for the clicks.

Hallo,

this Fiat is one of the Fiats 501 S, which where registered in Germany. You can find this car in the German book "Wir und das Auto" from Eugen Diesel (1933) And the car belonged to a Heinz von Perckhaamer in Berlin Kurfürstendamm 53. THis or a simmilar Fiat was the base for the OPel Rak I, which is still existing. I have a foto of a similar bodyd Fiat in my collection also with a Berlin registration.

Hi Peter,
for what of my knowledge not all 501S pointed "Bordino" was made by Bertone, but also by Ghia&Actis and some others. Therefore we can find similar - but not identical - bodies. However I can assume that the car in the pics has undergone some changes. The cowling in the lower part of the frame is very high and not very proportionate, as well as the covering in the front of the chassis, under the radiator(usually absent)and also the wings are atypical.
About front brakes this is not unusual. Later 501 was fitted with brakes, the car may be one of these or modified/updated with this axle.

I assume these photos all of the same car?
From the front, in the one with the two ladies the exhaust appears to be on the left side of the car, faired-in and quite substantial. The fairing on the right side in the other two photos i assume to be a cover for a petrol pipe, or feed pipe of some kind. This appears to be slightly smaller and situated starting farther aft than the one in the Fiat photo.
The car in the photos has front wheel brakes.
The Fait 501s does not and the fairing over the front of the cockpit is different.
So, is it a very modified Fiat 501s, as Stefano identified it, or do we need to look further?

I don `t know anything about the history and the type of the car, but the location of the last picture is near to Dresden. It is "Schloss Moritzburg". At this place the popular movie " Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel" was produced in 1973.

Kind regards, Nino

Almost surely the car is a Fiat 501 S, body probably made by Bertone or Ghia&Actis.
The faired exhaust pipe, the small trapezoidal vents, the covers of the rear and the gasoline cap are typical of this model.
The wings I believe to be a later application.
