From the sublime to the ridiculous: mascots galore

As we all know, collections come and collections go, and the time has now come for one impressive American automobilia collection to go. It features over 3,000 lots. What stands out most (we think) is the sheer number of radiator mascots. Think of a mascot and it will be there — policemen, Indian chiefs, sportswomen, devils, Cleopatras, zeppelins, all sorts of animals and even Maltese crosses. In brass or chrome or even Lalique glass — take your pick. If you were ever looking for a known or not quite so well-known mascot this is your time to buy it. A belated Christmas present to yourself perhaps?

And there’s more than just the mascots. We spotted all sorts of early emblems, badges and radiator scripts, brass hub caps, coachbuilders’ plaques and rally badges, as well as racing and concours medallions. Have a look and be surprised. The collection is in Louisville, Ohio at the moment but we think that individual items will soon be scattered around the world. And maybe that's not such bad news this time. To see it all in one collection must be fantastic. But to see a long-missing mascot or emblem returned to a PreWarCar would be just as wonderful.
