A Mont-Saint-Michel mystery

Have you made your holiday plans for summer yet? Mont-Saint-Michel has always been a popular destination for many reasons, but we’re sure this picture with a beautiful car and a very elegant woman will give its popularity a further boost still.

Although there is a road, the tiny and rocky tidal island just off the coast in Normandy, France, isn’t exactly an obvious destination for the motorist. The driveway to it, however, with the island itself making for a most romantic backdrop, is a much-loved photographic location during low tide. You will find pictures of everything from wartime Jeeps during the liberation of the island to 2CVs pictured for factory PR purposes, as well as umpteen post cards showing the mount with buses and cars in front of it.

We do not believe this to be a postcard picture, but a photograph which somehow found its way from a family album to the pages of PreWarCar.com. Unfortunately, we don’t know the original source. It appears to show a woman, her chauffeur and her dog taking a little break to make the most of the photo opportunity. The car and clothes would date it to the early 1900s, we’d say, but the car itself is a mystery to us. We did note that the open door which seems to be upholstered with a sort of Cubist influence, which is quite something. What more might we say about it? We’d be glad to learn a thing or two from you.

The woman is quite statuesque.
The 'house' like my old house, and my old cars seem to have constant maintenance with scaffolding ALWAYS up.

The car is a ca 1906 CGV. The opened door shows a side pocket with flap, decorated in a rather conventional way as I see it.
