How about £ 200 for the lot? ( Upd. DVLA agrees)

Graham Little remembers the better student days.  £  200 would have bought all four vehicles in 1969. Easily affordable cheap transport paid for out of an £80 per term student grant (supplemented by part time employment). I'm confident the Morgan (FJ9938) and the Austin 7 Chummy (GV312) will have survived but less optimistic for the Austin 7 Ruby (GHY552). Cars & bike were last seen here at 6 Bennett Road, Leeds, UK. Nothing much has changed there. Except for the automotive landscape. And the prices of course...

I just bought the Morgan FJ 9938 in barn find unrestored condition. Lovely to see this old photo of it!

If John Bates can find a second hand Austin 7 for 90.5 GBP (RPI), or for 219.5 (Average earnings index), then could he get one for me please ?
Money doesn't buy you anywhere near what it did in my day !

CHY 552 is not on the DVLA database either !

I think the Ruby is, in fact, CHY 552. A number of CHY Rubies have survived, but this one does not appear on the Austin Seven Clubs Association register, so presumably it is no longer with us.

In 1959 £5 would have bought a decent Austin 7. My Morris 8 cost £7.50 (£7 10s)but a replacement engine was needed at £4 and the insurance was £12, petrol was £1 for 20 litres and at the time Bentley tourers (Le Mans style) were around £100 per litre.
BUT is any of this of any relevance today?

David Scott might be pleased to know that the Skyrack and the Original Oak in Headingley are still meeting the needs of the local student population. I too purchased some now desirable cars at reasonable prices in the late 60's - a blown MG TC for £60, and a flat rad Morgan +4 for £150, which I later sold for £200 plus a 1930 Morris Minor!
I now have proper pre-war cars, all Triumphs, both in name and in fact.

£200? Sheer luxury!! ( as Monty Python would have said) As I remember of 1969 ( although as they say, "if you can remember the sixties, you were never really there") I spent about £25 on average on a car and thought that extravagant! A skilled man's wage was not much more than £1500p.a. and our first house cost, I think, about £4k in the 70's

Although I was doing the "Summer of 68 in Paris" thing them and cars weren't at the forefront of my mind! We need that spirit now, with a vengeance!
