How to date an early Aster ? ( Update: 1902 Gladiator, Century, Waltham?)

A good friend from the US has this nice one cylinder Aster. In his own words it is huge, heavy and  crude giving the impression that it is rather early.  But what the age really is? Anyway it is numbered #5723 and the height of the veteran thumper is 24 inches. Bore & stroke is 88 x 100 mm, which results in 608 cc;  thus being a 5HP?

Interestingly the engine seems to have seen hardly any use with no visible wear on piston, rings and no wear either on bore.  The cooling chambers are clean as if they haven't seen any water. The overall appearance is also of an engine that had a very easy cumberfree life. Unknown how the engine made its way to the United States. We know that Aster engines appeared in various cars including very early Renault and Gladiator cars.  It will be interesting to see where this engine would fit in the timeline of Aster.

My early Aster - 75x90, eng. no. 3620 - is to similar pattern, but smaller. The big single-cylinder Aster engine was used in a number of the "no name" (L&B etc.) cars that were sold in Australia pre 1905.

I am an expert on Orient vehicles. The Orient trikes quads and bikes used a very small 3 HP version. This is way too big. Aster engines were sold in the USA for anyone that wanted to power their own vehicle, power plant, etc.

This seemingly is a "pocket valve" engine, also called IOE(inlet over exhaust), being quite the oddity for 4 wheeled transport, please correct me as I am not as versed as most.
Most(nearly all?) engines circa 1900 were horizontally mounted, within the motorcycle world, earliest days to 1931, I know of no horizontally mounted IOE, only flathead and OHV, if this inlet is "automatic", no dice if horizontal?

From my notes I think it could be a 3K of 6.5hp which had a bore of 88mm, but a stroke of 110mm not 100mm as you quote.
The advert I have states it was fitted to Gladiator and Century voiturettes amongst others. The photo is a close match to the advert. I would suggest the date is circa 1902.

Aster was already in 1900 represented in the US by the well-known Waltham Mfg. Co., builders e.g. of the Oriënt Buckboard. Advertisements appeared regularly in magazines like The Horseless Age. The engine looks very similar to the 1900 model, though some small differences are apparent. As these engines remained virtually unchanged sometimes for a rather long period, I don't dare to date it.
