A WWI Mystery Cyclecar (update: 1912 Lagonda & 1905 Piccolo)

Sophia is writing: "We are researching the life of one of our ancestors who fought in WW1. We have found two picture of him in cars. First was taken in Exmouth in 1915 and the Second in Cylon in 1914. Can you help identify the Cars?  Kind Regards  Sophia "

Sure we like to help Sophia, yet something went wrong with the upload of the second photo. Can you send that directly to info # prewarcar.com (exchanging # for @). Regarding the first photo. We see two proud young officers posing with their a nifty little machine or voiturette. It appears the radiator has a rounded V-shape. The door runabout body are shwoing an elegant full flow from front to rear. However the exact shape of the rear end of the car is not clear to us. We're sure there are some readers out there who can help.

Update: the first car seems to be a 1912-13 Lagonda (check Light Auto)
Amazing to see that the small thumbnail still was clear enough to recognise the 1904-05 Piccolo.

A small photo of the Piccolo, but more likely a 1906 or 1907 car.

I am pretty certain this is a 11 hp Lagonda. Not a cyclecar more a light car.

The first photo shows a Lagonda, probably of 1914. Undoubtedly Lagonda-specialists will be able to tell more about the trunk, I don't have photos of the rear side of the car. The thumb photo shows a 1904c Piccolo.

Could be a Wilton or Marlborough. The car's size, wheels and radiator look correct. Chassis of both cars were French Malicet et Blin, Ballot engines were used. I sold sole known surviving Wilton back to the family that built it in England.

The car is a ca. 19o5 Piccolo, built in Germany between 19o4 ans 191o by a A. Ruppe, who later built cars under the name of " Apollo" until 1927. The cars, also called "Ruppe-Piccolo" had been very popular and there are many survivours around.

The car in the main picture looks like an Enfield 9 of around 1913.

This is an early Lagonda. Wilbur Gunn, the man who created Lagonda, would prefer this model to be called a Light Car. This is a c.1913 Two-seater Coupe, described by Lagonda as the "Business Man's Pleasure Car".
