If you want the full monty, please check RM's description it's great reading matter, but in fewer words this is the car's story. One of three cars built for the 1930 TT commisioned by british AR importer Fred Stiles. Engine was the 105 bhp racing version fixed head or Testa Fissa. Body a British made 4 seater due to TT regulations. Nuvolari on car #10 wins the 1930 TT. A new very nice roadster body was made by James Young. The racing engine was brought down (by the manufacturer ) to slightely more usable specs. October 1930 the James Young version of the TT winning car is exposed and sold at the London Motor Show. Over the last many years the car is restored back to the exact TT outfit and mechanics. Perfect job. Yet it is only part of the history. With the car comes the original James Young body.
If your editor would acquire the car - and he could easily do so in case you would buy PreWarCar.com - he most certainly would take up the recommissioning of the James Young coachwork and the mechanical fittings that have to do with this post-TT attire. Thus we would create a second view on this very important car. And that aside we would have a brilliant converstation piece when visiting various events in different appropriate guise. We would visit let's say Monterey - in the current racing outfit. And another event - let's say Goodwood Revival - in the more original and scruffy James Young 'tweed'. Well give it a thought over the next 48 hours. RM's sales is coming Wednesday, October 31, strategically planned just prior to the London Brighton weekend.
You have a car with significant race history, that has lost its race livery and carries a not so great ( sorry) body. What do you do?
Tempting and we have lot of cases, to bring back the car to its racing glorious days , with a new body, and keep the period less charismatic body as an aside. Unless like on some Alfa 2900 the body for road use after the racing period is so striking like the ex Terry Cohn 2900, that no one wants to recreate the race body. But this is rare.
