Il Mistero della GATSO Kwik: Un Roadster Sconosciuto Svelato
Recentemente, mi sono imbattuto in una foto affascinante di un roadster in costruzione. Ciò che mi ha colpito subito sono le somiglianze sorprendenti con la GATSO Kwik del 1939. In particolare, il parafango anteriore e il taglio della porta presentano forti somiglianze con la leggendaria Kwik, di cui è stata pubblicata un’immagine su Autovisie nel luglio del 1994. La foto della Kwik mostra chiaramente la sua costruzione, ed è difficile non chiedersi se questo roadster recentemente scoperto possa avere le stesse origini.
La GATSO Kwik è sempre stata circondata da un velo di mistero. Il design fu concepito alla fine degli anni ‘30 ad Amsterdam, sotto la direzione del famoso pilota di rally Maus Gatsonides. Gatsonides, noto per i suoi successi nelle corse, aveva l'idea di creare un roadster leggero e veloce, che fosse allo stesso tempo funzionale ed elegante. La costruzione dell'auto fu affidata a Schutter & Van Bakel, una rinomata azienda automobilistica degli anni ‘30, conosciuta per la sua maestria e innovazione. La Kwik fu lodata per il suo design all'avanguardia, con una linea elegante e caratteristiche tecniche che la rendevano un precursore dei moderni roadster che conosciamo oggi.
Ciò che ora è così affascinante è la domanda se il roadster nella foto potrebbe essere un prototipo della celebre Kwik. Considerando le somiglianze nel taglio della porta e nel parafango anteriore, è possibile che si tratti di una continuazione o di un altro progetto di Schutter & Van Bakel, forse un progetto mai completato o che non ha mai visto la luce.
Chi può raccontarmi di più su questo? Ci sono esperti o persone coinvolte nella costruzione della Kwik che potrebbero aiutarmi a risolvere questo mistero? O forse emergeranno altre foto o documenti che possano fare luce sull'origine di questo roadster unico. Potrebbe trattarsi di un affascinante pezzo di storia automobilistica olandese che non ha ancora svelato tutti i suoi segreti.

For many years, during my student times at Delft University in the early 1970s, I used to go and visit the scrapyard of Henk Gentenaar and his dad in Voorburg, near the Hague, to buy parts for my ailing 2CV van. Of course, I ransacked the various buildings on the yard, but there was one which was always locked. One day, when I had obtained their confidence, the old Gentenaar opened up this shed and inside was Kwik! He told me that the Mercury-powered special had belonged to famous rally man Maus Gatsonides, who had offered them a brand new Volkswagen Beetle in exchange, but the Gentenaars wouldn't hear of it. Kwik was not for sale—full stop!
Another yard next-door that I visited had a terrifyingly large black Alsatian on a long chain guarding the yard. I entered and tried to convince myself that I had no fear, although he was already 'grinning' at me, showing his teeth. Then suddenly he got up, growling at me, and of course I started to run. He got me by the shoulder, but at the end of the long chain I managed to shake him off. I never went there again for parts. Oh, happy days, when life was simple.

The same pictured and another one appeared in the Dutch magazine "Automobiel Klassiek" number 4, 1994, page 25. It is described as "Kwik in de spanten (bodyframe), Haarlem, 1939."
