Dave Rex from Virginia participates actively in Corvette racing since the mid eighties. But at 67 he no longer felt comfortable with "wheel to wheel" racing in that class and decided trying a walk on the mild side. He just found and bought the 1927 dated Sandford tricycle from a gentleman who bought it in Paris, France in 1969. Dave would love to get in touch with other Sandford drivers and owners. Or at least with people who have experience with the 1,1 litre Ruby engine . He has no data at all on the engine. But he gave us the numbers: "The tag on the dashboard says: Type S, Moteur # 2992. On the right side of the engine and on the left side engine housing are the numbers 2992-ES. I have not seen any other numbers on the chassis. Any info on valve adjustment, points adjustment, timing, etc. would be very helpful. The Sandford will be welcome at events that I have never attended and have classes for the prewar cars (like the Limerock festival). I plan to attend some of those events next year. Also it will be fun researching the history on the Sandford. I had a great time at Roebling Roads and the Hilton Head Concours last week. There was a lot of interest in the car."
UPDATE III by Michel Piat (France): "I'm Michel PIAT, Georges Irat Owners Club President and our cars are motorised whith RUBY. It is not exactly the same that in Sandford but it has many analogies. 2992 ES is the number and the type of the engine which was made by the Ets. Godefroy & Levêque in Levallois near Paris. We have available a little notice for this engine. We have few informations about the cyclecar Sandford. Greetings from France."
UPDATE II by Ian Kerr (UK):"I have the 1100 cc Ruby engine in my 1928 Vernon Derby ,Engine number
2849 - D and have the engine instuction booklet with the settings in french that we have translated into English ,I am willing to share this with any other Ruby engine owners. It would nice to be able to make a list of Ruby engines."
UPDATE by Marc Hendrix whos has knowlege on Ruby engiones and also provides a Sandford website in France
