Freddie March, was an accomplished racing driver, taking many victories for both the MG and Austin works teams at Brooklands. Eighty years ago -in 1931- he won the Brooklands Double Twelve race with a works MG C-Type Midget. A total of fourteen C-Types were prepared, although one was withdrawn. They had to compete against ten Austin Sevens in a handicap race, so careful advance planning had to be done by the MG-factory. Race tactics, refueling procedure, pitwork and signals were discussed in detail and this preparation resulted in the first five places taken by MG, enthusiastically watched by practically the entire -200-men strong- MG-workforce.
After WW II Freddie March established Goodwood racing track, so it comes as no surprise that his 1931 victory will be one of the special celebrations at this year’s Goodwood Revival 2011 on September 16-18, by staging an authentic recreation of the MG team’s Brooklands paddock, with a line-up of six racing MG C-Types, including two Midgets that competed in the Brooklands Double Twelve endurance race.
