It’s Carnival time again! (Upd. North Africa, Algeria 1911 )

One of the highlights of Carnival is always the big parade. This one was held in Nice, Southern-France and Michelin must have thought that it was a great opportunity to promote their tyres. We wonder though why they used horse-drawn propulsion instead of a motorized one (click main pic). Perhaps the motorcar was still too noisy? The same Michelin twins won a first prize at the New York automobile carnival festival. But in which years all this played?

Dear friends,

Here Professor Pau Medrano Bigas from Barcelona, Spain.
The postcard is a souvenir image of the french famous Carnaval de Nize celebrated each year. This one is the 39th edition, celebrated in exactly year 1911.

All people were dressed in different costumes, so the comments about "algerian" or "North African" people are unaccurated. Sure were part of another float or fanfare into the Carnival Parade.

Best wishes from mediterranean Barcelona, (and excuses for my low english level!!!).

Sincerely, Pau

The postage stamp is issued by "Republique Francaise" that is France and the stamp is of 5 cemtimes value. This series was issued from 1907.
Cannot make out the franking stamp details except the date 4/3/11. Juse 100 years.

the date on the stamp reads 4-3-11, that should give a rough estimate; a stamp collector should be able to give further precision

Looking at the clothes worn by the crowd, I think this picture was almost certainly taken in North Africa: specifically in Algeria. The postmark on the card is unclear, but might read "Alger" and appears to be dated 1911: at that time Algeria still used the stamps of France, although neighbouring Tunisia had its own stamps, while French Morocco used French stamps surcharged in pesetas.
