15 year old Bobby crossing Australia with a Dodge

A new generation is taking over... Aside the fabulous shots the fact that we see 15 year old Bobby Robinson at the wheel of the Dodge named 'Isabelle' deep-deep in the far outback  is a story in itself. Four man made an attempt to cross from East to West through the heart of Australia with a 1926 and 1920 Dodge Brothers. Making the best use of available facilities.  Courageous men who deserve our deep respect. And this was only an in between warm up act. See Read More.

An excellent attempt, well done! shame about the mechanical problems but a wonderful experience for Bobby, the more young people interested in old cars the better!
Well next year will be the centinery of the first car to successfully cross Australia in 1915, a Studebaker EC6 any plans to commemorate this historical event?

My dad told me many stories of his old Dodge that he had taken over to Africa as they toured through the dusty terrain. He said it was amazing how easily it held up. For those who haven't been in the African terrain, that dust is pretty nasty. I look forward to reading more articles on these old Dodges. They just dont make anything like they used to.

Two days ago I spoke with a 90 year old man about the 1917 Dodge touring at his home. He was 14 when his father parked the car for want of tires in 1937 and is has not moved since. They had bought a second Dodge, a 1933 based on the dependability of the '17. And other Chrysler products in later years. The '17 was so memorable the family have not let it go yet!

A good attempt deserved better than this disappointing end. My mate Adrian Rousseau & I drove my 1926 Dodge Brothers from Melbourne to Perth & back in 1956, camping each night. The road was unsealed for about half the distance, a mixture of mud & bulldust. I can think of no car better suited for these conditions than the Dependable Dodge, and even now if I had to repeat the trip and be sure of returning, I'd take the Dodge. It will be interesting to read about Ian Neuss's Hanoi to Helsinki run later in the year.
