Join the PreWarCar.com team on a tour in the Swiss Alps

Regular readers of our website will know that we are staffed by enthusiastic pre-war drivers. We participate in various events throughout the year, with different types of cars at different locations. In 2022, one of our highlights was the Targa Poschiavo in St. Moritz, Switzerland, without doubt the most beautiful route we drove that year. There’s good news: after 2022’s inaugural event, the rally is returning for 2023 and registration is now open.

Needless to say, we registered immediately. The event, held this year from 9th to 11th of September, is open to all pre-war cars, with an emphasis on those built between 1905 and 1926.

Targa Poschiavo Engiadina

The event is two days of pleasant driving, with a regularity competition for an extra challenge. It starts in the centre of St. Moritz, known for its winter sports, on Sunday 10th September 2023. The first stop is the local airport, which will be closed to normal traffic and temporarily turned into a race track for the Kilomètre Lancé (a one-kilometre sprint). There will also be a fly-past by historic aircraft.

After the fly-past, the route continues over the Albula Pass, which connects the Albula river valley with the Engadine valley, to Tiefencastel, then it goes over the Julier Pass back to St. Moritz. This is another historic route, as it has been an important transport link since Roman times. In the evening, dinner will be held at a special location, a village in the mountains where time has stood still, which can only be reached by four-by-four, and where Heidi was filmed - a truly magical place.

On Monday, the second day of the event will take us along more fantastic roads and through some more Swiss mountains, with six passes to traverse in total. After the famous Bernina Pass, we will come to the mediæval centre of Poschiavo for lunch. The route will then take us back to La Rösa, where an off-road trial will take place before the finishing ceremony.

St. Moritz Car Week

The Targa Poschiavo rally is part of the International St. Moritz Automobile Week, ten days of classic motoring excitement. The week starts with the Kilomètre Lancé and ends with the renowned Bernina hill-climb on 16th and 17th September.

The Swiss Alps are absolutely breathtaking and, based on our experience from last year, there is not a single part of the route that is not photogenic. We can highly recommend that everyone takes part in this exciting pre-war event. If you decide to enter, please let us know.
Registration is open here.

Included in the registration is the route, details of regularity check and stops, two lunches and two dinners at special locations.
The entry does not include a hotel, which you can book yourself in St. Moritz or the surrounding area, or you can take your motorhome and camp nearby.
