Grandpa's Chrysler, for keeping or selling?

Well, after 18 years of hearing about it, I finally got to snap some pictures of my wife's Grandfathers '32 Chrysler. Under this weather beaten tarp was this beautiful car, wasting away. Although it has been stored outside since his passing, the car is still in good to fair condition.

With no idea of value, the family has asked me to find a buyer. It isn't available for sale yet but it will be after we settle on an asking price as well as sorting out title and registration informaton. In the family since new,my opinion is that it should not be sold and that the younger generation should have it restored.  (photos sent by Kevin 'SoulVW')

The more I think about this, the more convinced I am that the Chrysler should be sold. Sentiment and enthusiasm have to be there- they cannot be imposed. Booting this grand old car out and under a tarp was an awful thing, and the fact that the family is more interested in its value than in getting it in a garage and giving it a decent home tells me that it should be sold to a caring owner as soon as possible.

The text says it all, "my opinion is that it should not be sold and that the younger generation should have it restored". Is the younger generation interested? Then they should have come forward already. There is no point of imposing a family heirloom on anyone who is not interested. If no one is interested, sell it off. If someone is interested, please make sure that all stakeholder's interests are taken care off to avoid bikering later on.
See, my opinion would have no value, you have to go by the family cicumstances. Good Luck and Cheers Harit

"Grandpa's Chrysler". There were no car enthusiasts prior to me in this family. Do you have ANY idea how I would have appreciated it if someone had saved my gramp's only car, a 1918 Dodge? Or my mother's first used car, a '25 Studebaker touring? Think VERY long and VERY hard before you decide the MONEY is worth more than the HISTORY this car has with your family.
Will Rogers said "Buy land, they ain't makin' any more of the stuff". You already own this Chrysler and they ain't makin' any more vintage Chryslers.

i have had old cars all my life but my family would not be interested in them when i have gone, so rather than put it back under a sheet sell it to some one who would like it. i bought a Talbot some years ago that the family did not want, i kept in touch with them during the restoration with pictures etc and they said it was the best thing that could have happened

The fact that it was moved outside under a humidity trappiong tarp, tells me it might be in better hands if sold.

In the family from new? Yes, the family should keep it, as once it is gone, it's usually gone forever. Get it going, keep and enjoy it for grandpa's sake.

Wow! This is a Chrysler 6 Sedan, series CM. It was the least expensive and most popular model, though only about 12,000 were built in that depressed year. It cost $885 new, but this car has nice original extras including the trumpet horns, wire wheels and leather upholstery. It was quite powerful, producing about 70bhp. This seems a fairly 'light' restoration job at the moment and certainly it should be worth a good five figure sum. I agree it ought to stay in the family- but only provided it can be put in the care of someone who has a real interest in it. Of course, it needs to go into a real garage straight away!
