Known and unknown cars from the family album

Monday at PreWarCar.com means... Exactly! A mystery! This week we have a mystery from the family album. These five photographs were given to us by a friend of ours. Who again received them from a great aunt. She found them in one of the family albums and is curious to know the make, the type and the year of the cars. These pre-war cars were (presumably) in the late 20s in the possession of the family, who lived in Brussel, Belgium.

The first photograph, let's call it the family photo shows three of the cars the family owned. We do not know who the three-man behind the wheels are. On the second photograph, we zoom in on the largest car of the three on the right-hand side of the photograph. We think this is a Minerva. But what year would it be?

Let`s go from the right to the left. We think the car in the middle is possibly an Excelsior. Looking at the square shape of the radiator the body style, and the wooden wheels of the car. Besides this, back in the days, most people bought their cars quite often in an area more locally. Then Excelsior sounds logical because of the fact that it is a Belgian make. Do you think we are right that the car on this photograph is an Excelsion? What type and year would it be do you think? The cyclecar all the way on the left we are not so sure about. Can it be an Amilcar? What do you think? And did you also see the little boy in his peddle car?

The family owned one more car we know of. The pre-war on the last photograph is very likely a Daimler.

A lovely collection of cars this family owned. In this Monday mystery, we are more looking for the type(s) and the year(s) rather than the makes. Although we would like to know if you think we are correct with the various makes.

Please leave a comment below if you can tell us more about (one of) these pre-war cars from the family album.

The Minerva looks to be a 30HP, probably from 1923-24, because of its RAF wheels. 1922 were 2 wheel-braked, 1925 used Rudge hubs. The last photo is an English Daimler of some type, probably pre-WW1.

In the middle its is surely not an Excelsior because the bonnet is too short for a 6 cylinder engine but maybe a FN (Fabrique Nationale d'armes de guerre at Herstal near Liège)

The cyclecar is most probably an Amilcar CGS3. the shape of the radiator cowl and the fenders are typical. The absence of running board excludes the C4 model. Year 1924-1926.
